I pulled two 3 watt, 4 ohm speakers out of some old computer speakers. I completely removed the amplifier and simply connected a 3.5 mm jack that i plug my ipod into. they are actually quite loud already, but i want to amplify them using a battery powered amp. i cant use the amp they came with because it requires 12 volts at 1 amp. i saw this one online:
It only delivers 1 watt per channel. i was really hoping to find one that would deliver 2-4 watts since the speakers are 3, but any amp higher than one requires high volts/amps that would require an AC adapter. i was wondering how loud this 1 watt amp would make a 3 amp speaker.
It really depends on the efficiency of the speakers. Given their 3 watt rating, I suspect that 1 watt would drive them quite loud.
Let me put it another way, the difference between 3W and 1W to your ears, which respond on a log basis, is only 5 dB, a noticable change, but not a major one.
