Amplifier Excellent How can you wire up car subwoofers to work inside with a home stereo unit?
I love the sound of my car stereo, and just upgraded my two 12" subwoofers (and amplifier) that were in my car with two newer subwoofers and a new amp.
Now I have two excellent subs in a bandpass box and an amplifier that are just taking up space in my garage. I know that amps provide the power to the subwoofers, and they run off of DC power, which is not what is run indoors on home stereo systems...
I've tried wiring a battery to an amplifier inside a house (+ to +, and GND to the negative terminal) and have it in a secure location away from all flammable objects, I see the RCA jacks, but I'm not sure (and am not ready to try until I get further information) if they will communicate with a home stereo RCA.
I'm also confused about what I need to do for the remote wire on the amplifier, so that it can tell when to turn the amp on/off.
I know I'm not a professional, but I'm just trying to figure this out. Any help is much appreciated.
Yes can.. You must need to find a voltage step down transformer to 12vdc to power the amplifier, and find one with the enough ampere rating depend on how much watts RMS is your amplifier.
400watts = 33.3amp
800watts= 66.3amp
1000watts=83.3amp
12000watts=100amp
always get a bigger transformer than what your amplifier need, because if the transformer cant cope, it will be damage.. As transformer is expensive.
connect transformer live to amplifier + and connect transformer neutral to amplifier ground. normally, in between there is one more terminal call "rem" or etc. you need to connect a live to that terminal as to switch on the amp.
Example: you can take a live wire from the transformer connect it to a on-off switch and connect it to the terminal.
yes, they will communicate with a home stereo RCA to amplifier input RCA (provide that your home stereo have a sub output RCA port)
if you have home amplifier or home stereo, connect the sub-woofer RCA output from the home amplifier or home stereo to your car sub-woofer amplifier RCA input.

exp: DVD player audio to re-amp, pre-amp connect to two amplifier as one for sub-woofer, one for speaker.
Only your pre-amp and car amplifier will need to use power from the 12v transformer.
