Phono Pre About connecting PC to Stereo Amplifier - Can you help please?
To play music files through my stereo system I used as recommended a 3.5mm plug to 2 phono cable. The sound quality through the speakers was pretty awful. Can anybody suggest likely reasons for this? Could it be that my amplifier is from the pre-digital age? Or could it be something to do with impedence or other compatability issue? Any ideas appreciated.
The input into your amp is probably way too high.
You need to turn the PC volume way down, and turn the amp volume up.
To get it right, for any volume setting on the amp, the PC input should sound about the same volume as any other imput (radio/turntable etc).
