Your question is a little confusing, but I'm going to interpret and answer anyway:
Mercantilism was the desire of large economic/political powers to find raw goods and natural resources (like in the New World colonies) to ship cheaply back to the home country (like Spain or England) in order to produce luxury items and manufactured goods. This meant that the European country would not have to import expensive finished products from other countries, which saved them money. Also, they could then sell finished products to other European countries or to the newly discovered civilizations and colonies. The point here is that there was a LOT of money to be made very quickly, and countries like Portugal, Spain, France and England were discovering and exploiting land as quickly as possible. You'd think there was enough land and resources in the world to appease Europe many times over, but the age-old rivalries between the European powers continued as they claimed huge chunks of land--sometimes it even led to wars back in Europe as they fought over their new land.
Absolutism (if I remember right) was the transfer of power from smaller agents of government (like lords and city-states) towards a king with absolute power. National boundaries as we know them were not established at that point-- so lets pretend it's like the most powerful aristocratic figures were trying to consolidate their power by either intimidating or convincing smaller figures to join their side. This was a long process that had been going on for a while by the seventeenth century, but it really started to see some chaos and violence when the aristocracy and other powerful figures realized that the king was taking power away from them. That's where you got stuff like the overthrow of Charles I in England and a short time in the 1660s where England didn't have a king at all. It was a very very bloody time, and when they finally let a king take power again it was with the condition that the parliament would have a lot more power in decision-making.
Both of these played into the balance of European power. With the populations and economies growing to the point of near-instability, it was really a race to see which nation could establish dominance and make its tidy profits without having to worry too much.
Something that you didn't really mention in your question was the continued tension between Catholics, Protestants, and the various denominations like Puritanism that split off from the Protestant church. Whether a king was one or the other, whether his subjects or court were predominantly one or the other... it had a big impact on alliances, wars, and migration to the New World.
