Power Supply
Buying a power supply and video card, where do i get the right size power supply?
Well here's the deal, I currently picked up an HP p6130f with the intentions of replacing the video card and power supply as everything else inside is pretty decent. I'm going to go with a Radeon HD 4850, as it seems to be a good card for the price. I believe the dimensions on the power supply are standard, so can anyone recommend a 700-800 watt power supply that will fit the 3.25 (height) 6 (deep) and 5 (length) dimensions?
The HD4850 is a 150-watt video card. It draws 75 watts through the motherboard PCIExpress 16x slot, and another 75 watts through the PCIe 6-pin connector which you connect to the PSU.
150 watts / 12 volts = 12.5 Amps on a PSU's +12V rail.
You don't need a 700-watt PSU to drive it.
The 450-watt Corsair 450VX has 33 amps on its +12V rail and will be more than plenty to power anything you can possibly stuff into that tiny microATX HP system.
That PSU the guy above linked to is laughably weak for a"680-watt" PSU. Its +12V rail has only 26 amps.
Get the Corsair 450.
Did you misplace or destroy the AC power adapter to your Xbox 360. Don’t stare at a blank TV hoping the piece will replace itself. The Xbox 360 AC Power Adapter gives you plenty of power to play any Xbox 360 games.

Power Supplies are one of the most overlooked components within a desktop computer. People get excited when they hear about processor speed, size of memory, hard drive size, and graphic card specifications. But without the power supply you are never going to see your computer turn on. What does a power supply do besides well supply electricity? The electricity that comes from the outlets in the wall is an alternating current, an electrical current that is random and can easily destroy electronic components. The power supply takes the alternating current from the outlet and converts it to direct current, for the computer components to use.
Well what does this have to do with being green and lowering my computers footprint? Well during the conversion from AC to DC in most power supplies there is a lot of wasted power. The program is to insure efficiency of at least 80% in power supplies. As of recently there are now 1,300 80 plus certified power supplies or PSU's. There are four levels of 80 plus certifications 80 plus, 80 plus bronze, 80 plus silver, and 80 plus gold. Each level insuring a higher level of efficiency, most desktop power supplies are 200Watts to 1000Watts now if these power supplies weren't 80 plus certified there is a large amount of wasted electricity. This means that with an 80 plus psu in your computers you're not only going to lower your carbon footprint but you are going to save a lot of money just like with most green products.
