Stereo Amp
How much to install car stereo, woofer, and amp?
I have the amp and woofer already, but still need to buy the head unit and have all three installed. Around how much should I be looking to pay for these services and parts(wires, wire harness, mounting kit, etc...)? I know some places will install head units for free if you buy it from them.
It depends on what type of install you are looking for and also on the car itself.
Some vehicles offer premium sound systems that require some sort of adapter(s) to keep the vehicle operating like normal. Newer GM vehicles are notorious for this. For instance, BOSE systems require these. Other systems (such as the newer stock JBL systems) require an amp turn-on adapter. These cost more $$ and the install is also pricier because of the added work.
What type of car do you have (year, make, and model)?
I would say that on an average scale, you would be paying somewhere between $150-$250 at a reputable shop. I would recommend a car audio shop as opposed to a place like Circuit City or Best Buy. Car audio shops tend to have the better installers and parts needed for the job.
"Free" install isn't always the best thing.
Also, instead of the typical amp on the trunk floor or on the back of the back seat, you can have a false floor or "beauty board" built to hide the wiring for the amplifier. It makes for a neater appearance and a "custom" look to the install. Yeah, it's a little more $$, but it's very nice looking and limits the times something you throw in the trunk pulls the wires out of your amp.

Do you have a line level source (TV audio, MP3 player, video game etc) which simply isn't loud enough? One that forces you to crank up your receiver or amp volume control, simply to match your other sources? Or perhaps you need to run a long line between your TV audio line out and your receiver on the other side of the room, but find too much level is lost, or worse, interference from hum or a radio station is induced...

Cars aren't soundproof dude – you think you are putting on a private concert for just your dashboard hula-girl, but your powerful aftermarket car stereo is broadcasting the truth: that you're singing along to the Jonas Brothers ... not cool.
Hey, let someone else surprise his or her passengers with the resonating bass of the mythical "brown note," made possible by an impractically full trunk of superfluous subwoofers.
