Etched Glass How etched reticles adjustments are done?
Considering that wire reticles moves left-right, up-down when making corrections with the dials. How does the glass etched reticle works? I mean what happens when the dial is moved for corrections, does the entire lens moves?
Actually they both move in the same manner.
Modern scopes are a tube inside a tube design with either the wire crosshairs attached at one end of the inner tube or etched crosshairs applied to one of the lenses of the inner tube.
When you move the adjustment knobs the inner tube slightly changes it's angle horizontally or vertically. The wire cross hairs actually don't move.
About fifty or more years ago they came up with this technology to eliminate the offset crosshair location in the older scopes. I used to have an old 4X Unertl scope that was that way, when it was sighted in the crosshairs were offset low and to the right which just didn't look right even though the rifle was accurate.
