Will I need additional components suchas an amplifier? If so, which type?
yep, you're gonna need a pre-amp...and I hate to tell you this, but you can do a better job if you use your PC.

I don't know if CD recorders have got better, but I had a Phillips one that had a fit if you left it recording for more than half an hour at a time. Also you had to buy special (expensive) Audio CD's for it - also you can use 'cleaning effect' software if you use a PC...
