Amplifier Receiver Can i buy a 5.1 Channel Home Theater System receiver with out an amplifier installed in it?
I already have speakers and an amplifier hooked up and working. Can i just buy the receiver or will i just have to buy them both together?
Get rid of the amp. You dont need it and it cannot process the 5.1 surround sound signals on most DVDs Pre-Amps wont help either because you still need the recdiver to decode the 5.1 channels.
Sure, you can probably get all 5 speakers and a sub of some kind to put out sound, but it wont be appropriately balanced and you will essentially have a stereo sound being sent to all 5 speakers...there's a reason you need a receiver. The receiver will send the appropriate signals to the correct speaker....The center speaker is where the dialogue is the strongest...if you have dialogue coming out the back speakers at the same volume as the center, you dont have true surround sound
