Sony Str problem with STR-DG800 Sony receiver and subwoofer?
I have a Sony STR-DG800 AV Receiver and a Mirage BFS-100 powered subwoofer. I am trying to connect the subwoofer’s low-level input jacks to the pre out output jack of the receiver to supply a low signal to the subwoofer. I can’t get an output out of these jacks to the subwoofer. I have tested the subwoofer and it is fine. I think it may be a setup issue with the receiver, but I have played with the setup menus and have not been successful. Can someone help me?
I suspect you are right about the problem being in the receiver's setup menu. Somewhere in the menu you will need to tell the receiver you have a subwoofer and also tell it if you want the bass sent to just the sub or to the sub and the mains. I couldn't find a manual for this receiver online, so I can't give specific guidance. If you are unable to decipher the manual or navigate through the menu successfully, go ahead and give your salesman a call. He should either be able to talk you through the process or put you in touch with someone who can. Audio salesmen get these calls all the time. I would just encourage you to call during a weekday in the early afternoon. That is a slow time for them and you will receive more patient attention. It is not impossible that the subwoofer output on the receiver is defective (Yamaha had a run of receivers with bad sub outputs one year). Though this is possible it is not likely. I think you are on the right track.
