No sound from center and rear speakers on optical audio?
I have the Logitech Z5500. I decided to use optical audio. The subwoofer and front left and right speakers are working. The back speakers and center are not. On the Logitech website the only solution they list is for if you are using the supplied cables which im not using.
Ok i got the all the speakers to work except the center speaker. i had to change to stereo x2. I dont know why the center wont work. sound is great but this is wierd.

You are most likely getting the right sound. You are watching a stereo show and it will only come through the right and left speaker + subwoofer.
All analog tv shows are stereo audio encoded, at best. Also in stereo are many broadcasted HDTV shows. Try watching a HD channel program that is in full 5.1 Dolby Digital- such as one in 720 or 1080 widescreen.

The web-based file conversion service Zamzar has saved my bacon on a number of occasions. There are times when you want to go through a file but get stuck because you do not have the software to open it. Zamzar changes all that by offering a robust, quick, and excellent conversion service: you upload the file you would like it to convert; select the output format and your email, and you are off. In the span of an hour (sometimes quicker), you will get an email with a unique link taking you to a page where you can download the converted file, which remains active for a day. You can also upload multiple files in a batch.
Zamzar is incredibly easy to use, with a neat front end that simplifies the entire conversion process down to a few mouse clicks. It automatically identifies the file it has been given and adjusts which output formats are available. It can handle an impressive array of file types; the site recognises 49 format types which are divided into four categories: in images (.gif, .jpg, .bmp etc), documents (.doc, .pdf, txt, .docx etc), audio (.aac, .mp3, .mp4 etc) and video (.avi, .mpeg, .rm etc). Most of the files that you will try to convert will be converted without problems, although few files may get disturbed after conversion. But this is very rare.
You do not even need an account to get Zamzar to convert files, although having one ensures that you will be able to convert a file faster, have more online storage, an individual file capacity of up to 1GB (as opposed to the free 100MB), and no banner ads. But so long as you are not a heavy converter, a free login will work. You can also queue up multiple files, which is great if you want to change the format of an entire audio playlist from MP3 to OGG, for example. Zamzar can now also convert web video directly from sites such as YouTube.
The maximum file upload size is 100MB after signing up, which means that the software is a much more practical resource for converting video files (albeit still limited by the maximum upload ceiling).
Zamzar is a quick and easy-to-use file-conversion tool that can handle all the main formats but lacks more advanced options. An excellent free service worth checking out.
Personally speaking
Some observations when using Zamzar:
— Most of the image conversions went really well.
— Most of us are often looking for a freeware programme to convert PDF to DOC, and we are happy to see that this conversion works great in Zamzar
— Audio conversions also went without a hitch.
— The handful of video conversions attempted (including FLV as source) worked really well and without any audio sync problems. Some conversion failed flat out, including converting a Powerpoint presentation (.PPT) into HTML.
