Cross Over
Is it a good skill to have to be able to lead without the cross-over technique in drums?
I see alot of people (drummers) that use the 'cross over' technique, i can do that, but feel alot more comfortable with not doing it, im a left handed drummer. I thought it wouldn't look Professional enough, not that i want to sound really cocky...

I assume that this is a question about how to set up your drums. If you are leaving the drumset right handed then of course you will not be able to play "crossover" because your right hand will be much slower than your left. You should always hit the hihat with your left hand.
Some drummers really think the crossover is better, others (like me) don't care either way. If it feels uncomfortable, make sure your arms are crossed right around your hands or wrists. Remember that your sticks should not overlap. If you are having problems with hitting your sticks or hands together, raise your hihat or strike the hihat with more of a windup when you are hitting it at the same time as your snare.
But you won't look unprofessional for playing "open." Play with whatever setup is most comfortable. If you are using a single bass pedal, you will probably like it better with the pedal on the side of your dominant foot. If you are left footed (like me), put the bass pedal on the left and the hihat pedal on the right. This will mean you will have to learn the "crossover" technique. If you have a double bass pedal it doesn't really matter.
Also keep in mind the order of the toms. If you have a kit with a floor tom (5pc or bigger) and you want to play with the hihat on the left, you are going to have to set your toms up backwards or "right handed" to make room for the hihat. I don't know about you but I can't do a fill with my toms backwards--this is the only real reason why I crossover. If it wasn't for my floor tom I might play open just to be different.
