What is the proper way to restrain children at home and school?
I was just wondering because my child is very very very violent and out of control. All the time.I have talked to his teachers and they said that when they restrain him he calms down quickly. What is the proper way to restrain him. Do I need to restrain him at home because there is no other way to calm him down or what?
THANKS
I suppose there is something behind this behavior, either you choose not to share or do not yet know about. If it is the later, you need to be speaking with the administration and counselor at the school to address whatever the issue is (oppositional defiance disorder, etc.)
As far as restraining goes, the people in the school trained to do this typically give a "bear hug" from behind crossing and wrapping the child's arms in front of them and holding until the child has calmed down. Most of the districts I've been in though have rules about who can do this though, and typically, teachers are not on that list, unless they have gone through specific training. Which is why I recommended you speak with the admin and counselor about this.
