Home theatre and outdoor speaker help needed!?
I have a home theatre that I am happy with and do not want to replace. However, I have just renovated and had outdoor speakers installed through which I'd like to play music. Ideally, I would have liked to have played music through the hts to the outside speakers, but it is only a one-zone set-up (i.e. I can't switch between inside and outside speakers). Can I hook the outside speakers into a normal stereo system to play music, or do I need an amplifier (what's the difference??). To me, the home theatre and outdoor sound are totally seperate issues because I do not want to replace what I have now, but everyone I've consulted (sales people) want to talk me into buying a whole new hts.
My other question is to do with my existing home theatre. The manual says a VCR can be connected through the Audio 1 inputs but I don't have a VCR anymore. I imagine a DVD Recorder could go here, but what else? (Yes, I know this must sound like I'm clueless - when it comes to this stuff I really am!
right on the dvd hookup. just about any music playing device with rca jacks can be hooked up. tape deck,dvd,cd........not phono though it goes to phono on stereo only. only phono can go into phono inputs.
You need another amp/stereo hooked up to your existing setup. Use tape deck outputs on home theater. most have some audio output somewhere. go from that output to maybe aux input on the new stereo/amp. outdoor speakers to that. second stereo can be cheap and just needs to get the job done.
You should be able to listening to everything at once when done.
Lastly make sure polarity is correct on speakers. you might even try reversing the polarity outside compared to inside to deal with phase issues. means hook it up one way listen to it. try the other way. which is better?
