Woofer Pair What all do I need to install a new decent to good car steareo system?
On a site there are:
*subwoofers
*speaker pairs
*amps
is the amp needed? do i need anything else? is it as simple as making sure i have the right size speakers and stick the woofers in the trunk?
Cea compliant amps(This means they have been tested and DO put out the power they state, and even more sometimes)
Subwoofers WITHOUT paper cones, and the subs should be the same or else they get different frequencies and RMS ratings.
Speakers, its easiest to replace the stock speakers with the same size, look into Polk and Boston Acoustics for the BEST, Alpine comes after will high quality but not "best" in my eyes.
Try www.crutchfield.com and put in your car,year model and make and you will get the stock speakers sizes on there.
Subwoofers need MONO channel amps, that's ONE channel. They can be wired in series if there are lots of subs because there will only be ONE output. This is just how it goes.
Speakers, if you replace ALL FOUR, get a 4-channel amp that matches or comes very close to the RMS of the speakers.
What you need to remember is that MAX or PEAK don't mean ANYTHING!
RMS is what you need. Its the NOMINAL power handling, and try not to exceed the RMS of speakers and subwoofers by more than 10%.
If your TOTAL RMS becomes more than 1000RMS, you will most definitely need the "Big 3" upgrade. An alternator will probably be needed, and you should find out your total RMS power of all components, then see if they make the proper HIGH OUTPUT ALTERNATOR for your specific car.
