Outdoor Pool What is the best shock treatment for a pebble tech outdoor pool?
I have two different sources telling me to use either dichloride or calcium hypochlorite treatments. Which is best for a pebble tech pool?
I would recommend sodium hypochlorite, liquid pool chlorine, since you don't want to crud up your expensive pebble with calcium do you?
Dichlor was recommended since it is nearly neutral in pH 6.8, but is a stabilized chlorine so it has cyanuric acid in it.
Liquid chlorine will mix the best, contains no cyanuric acid or stabilizer and provided you adjust for the higher pH to maintain 7.2-7.4 in your pool you will be fine. 12.5% Sodium Hypochlorite recommends 16oz of muriatic acid 31.45% per gallon of chlorine used to neutralize chlorine additions and maintain your pH. Never add acid and chlorine in the same spot else chlorine gas will develop. Drizzle MA over the surface in a different spot that the chlorine was added. Leave pump on to mix for several hours. Super chlorination best done when the sun is off the pool.
Calcium hypochlorite is 1/2 calcium and if that is your only chlorine you use you can quickly go overboard on your calcium hardness and start plating your pool surfaces, swimmers, Tile, splashout zones, plumbing, equipment and heater with insulating and discoloring calcium.
