Western Digital Green Power HD for my OS?
I'm getting a new disk, and i'm tempted by the WD Green Power disks. Are they suitable for being the main disk for Windows, or will they slow it down?
Also, how do they compare to the Samsung Eco Green disks?
They are only marginally slower than the 'normal' discs (not that you'd notice) however the power saving using one as a main disc is also marginal.
If you have a lot of main memory and your PC doesn't do a lot of paging then it should be worth getting one. However as a main disc unless you'll be using one main appgame which is all in memory or you leave you're PC on a lot idle I wouldn't bother over a normal drive.
I have two 1tb one's in a raid array but since its idle a lot for sometimes long periods I figured it makes sense as the whole unit powers down when idle > 20 mins which means I get the benefits of the power saving.. Dunno about the Samsung discs tho they weren't around when I got my drives. I typically buy Seagate or WD as a rule. It can't do any harm to buy 'green' discs tho I'm sure at some point they'll be of a benefit to you..
